Glock 17 Gen 5 Review - Glock's introduction of the Generation 5 pistol was highly anticipated. The new pistol offers significant changes, more so than any previous generation. The first change to the Glock was the addition of a lighter rail. Next came the finger groove frame and later the coarse texture frame. However, not everyone likes the finger grooves or the RTF frame.
The author tested the revolver with several loads. Finally, he added a small beavertail grip and found it to be a good fit.

Amazingly, with each generation, the gun has maintained its reputation for reliability and performance. Few translations were made. The pistol that is considered to be the most reliable Glock variant is the Glock 17. Therefore, we have chosen the Generation 5 Glock 17 variant for this review.

There is also a version of the Glock compact 19. Glock tells us that there are currently no plans to offer the 5th Generation in .40 caliber. Glock offers the 5th Generation for the needs of law enforcement, especially the FBI and the new FBI Class "M" service pistol, as well as the civilian market. The FBI wanted a weapon that was superior and would allow agents to fire faster and more accurately in stressful situations.
The difference in the new pistol is interesting, and it will be equally interesting to see how the public reacts to these weapons. I find it to be an improvement over previous Glock pistols. Likewise, if you have a long-lasting Glock that meets your needs and runs well, you have no choice but to trade.
Of a new gun. If you're buying your first Glock, you're definitely not buying an older model but going for the 5th generation.
The first big change is the new barrel, which Glock calls the Marksman barrel. This barrel may be called a game barrel elsewhere. The difference? Glock has changed from polygonal to regular iterations. This fork also has a well made barrel crown. These guns will not be replaced with old guns. Those of us who wish to achieve perfect accuracy deserve the Bar Sto barrels on the Glock. Economy was best used by using heavier bullets.

The new barrel solves many problems. The pistol also includes a fully ambidextrous slide stop. For lefties or skilled shooters who want to be able to use either hand, this is a great upgrade. The magazine release is reversible, if desired. Glock's new finish is labeled nDLC, which is said to be more durable than Tenifer's finish. Glocks have shown wear in the past and the new finish should be better.
The grip frame offers good abrasion which allows for a firm grip when shooting. Fingering is no longer part of the picture. A flat style magazine release works well. Another advantage of quick reloading is the magazine well. It's well done and smart.
When shooters decide they want a custom Glock, first the sights are changed and then the grip is adjusted. The Glock sights are easily replaced with additional grip inserts and a new grip style for this gun. I don't think most shooters need a grip modification.
Glock tells us that the safety plunger has changed. The new style plunger is more attractive. Glock also claims a better trigger action, especially after that. The release lever got a coil spring instead of the old leaf spring, an improved machine. I can't see any difference in performance.
First Review: Glock 19x Crossover 9mm Pistol
The front and the front opening are now teardrop shaped. This should allow for more material clearance in the firing pin channel. I've reviewed a few guns during a detailed thread - residual dust and brass shavings will accumulate in this area. A nice change.
I collected some good ammo, including lead bullets, CCI Blazer ball ammo, 124-grain Federal HST, Gorilla 135 JHP, and Hornady XTP loads in 115- and 124-grain weights. . I added a Winchester 127-grain SXT + P+ load of proven service and excellent reputation. This combination of loads should be a good test, from light practice loads to powerful ones.
I started loading 17-round magazines with a manual load consisting of a solid 124-grain Magnus bullet and enough Titegroup powder for 1120 fps. There was no time to shoot. The pistol was very comfortable to shoot with this load. The Glock remained on target during the fight. Recovery management was excellent.
Moving on to the CCI Blazer ball load, the results are very similar. The Marksman's new barrel carries a good lead, and the normal construction of the grooves. The Gen 5 proved to be accurate enough to adapt to the Blazer's loads.

Moving on to the service loads, I shot Federal 124-grain HST and Hornady XTP in 115- and 147-grain weights. The results were good. The last load tested was from my dwindling supply of Winchester 9mm + P+. The SXT load had the heaviest load of any load, but it was manageable for practitioners.
Benchrest accuracy is not a test of a combat pistol, but the Glock 17 Generation 5 is clearly accurate enough to be used. All loads showed decently good accuracy within the limits of my ability. I see no advantage over older generation guns in terms of accuracy. The startup may have a different feel with a quick reset, but the difference, in my estimation, is small. The ambidextrous slide lock, bright magazine and new grip design made for a better handling gun for speed drills. The Glock 17 Generation 5 is a reliable addition to the Glock line with a real upgrade.
